Types of Outdoor Security Camera Housings
When installing an outdoor security camera or an entire system of cameras it is important to ensure that your investment will withstand the forces of the outdoor environment. That is why there are outdoor security camera housing enclosures to protection your equipment if the camera itself is not built to the standard required by the conditions in which it will be installed. The great thing is that there are so many types of housing units that just you can protect your camera against just about any threat as long as you plan for it ahead of time.
The most common threat to outdoor security camera systems all over the world is weather and climate conditions. Fortunately there are housing units that come with specialized features specific to the different conditions. For especially cold environments there are some that come with built in heaters and insulation. At the other end of the spectrum there are housing units that offer fans or even small air conditioning systems to keep the camera cool enough to continue operating. Of course most are water proof to protect against rain, snow or dust in particularly dusty environments.
To protect against chemical or physical demands stainless steel units are often the best option. In instances like a kitchen where acidity from food spills could erode the casing of a camera stainless steel is the only choice and it is obviously stronger than plastic. The problem with a metal enclosure is when the camera relies on a wireless connection for data transfer. The metal will often obstruct the wireless signal which is why some come built with external antennas that can be connected to the camera inside to get around this problem. Obviously there is no reason why cameras installed in harsh conditions have to be destroyed by the forces of these environments when there is a housing unit to accommodate just about any threat.
